Government to Create ‘Divorce App’ to Assist Separating Couples

One of the most successful advertising campaigns of the last decade claimed that there was an ‘app for everything’ and now the government plan to use them to help couples through their divorce.

According to reports, individuals that are going through a divorce will be able to use the app with either their smartphones or personal computers and will be given to access to advice on matters such as child support, circumventing dispute and effective co-parenting.

It is estimated that it will cost the government £14 million to create the divorce app, with these fees going to various groups; each tasked with creating original content for the app. The plans have been met with criticism, however, with many claiming that the ‘divorce app’ is unnecessary, would be little more than a ‘nanny state’ policy, and, during times of austerity, is an unnecessary expense.

Ministers have responded by claiming that a ‘divorce app’ would save the country money as it will encourage parents to resolve contentious issues such as maintenance payments and the division of assets amongst themselves making them less reliant on services such as the Child Support Agency or the Citizen’s Advice Bureau.
