Official documents form a key part of many applications, whether they relate to taxation, planning permission or any other matter it is certain that some form of official documentation will need to accompany the relevant submission. It’s understandable, then, that many people query whether or not they will still require a copy of their marriage certificate following their divorce. Fortunately, they don’t - it’s all taken care of by the divorce process itself! When a divorce is finalised both parties are sent what a document, known as a Decree Absolute, which serves as proof of the fact that the couple referred to within the document are divorced and, indeed, that they were formerly married. As a result this document can be used in place of either spouse’s marriage certificate in the future.
