Pull Your Weight Around the Home: Avoid Divorce

Couples who share housework are significantly less likely to divorce one another, according to a recent study. Research conducted by cleaning company Vileda has revealed that as many as three in ten couples that become divorce attributed their spouse’s refusal to help them with household chores as the reason for their marriages having ended. The study revealed that the majority of couples experienced discord as a result of their partners not putting items away and failing to provide adequate assistance around the house (both 26%), followed by failing to do the washing up (18%). Interestingly, the study also revealed that three in ten couples separated as a result of their spouse’s negligence regarding housework, 22 per cent also stated that they were embarrassed about referring to such matters in their divorce petitions as they felt that such an allegation lacked significance. It was also discovered that over 80 per cent of those that took part in the study had learned from their previous relationships and were making a more concerted effort to assist their partner with household chores. Here at Quickie Divorce, we know all too well just how frustrating individuals find it when their partners aren’t providing them with enough support (it’s commonly cited in unreasonable behaviour petitions) and this research just goes to show that helping with the housework might just be the key to a successful marriage that doesn’t end in separation or divorce.
