Video to Help Children Cope With Divorce

The internet may already be teaming with resources for separating parents looking to help their children cope with divorce, but they’re, generally, generic and predictable. Fortunately, that’s about to change. Professor Child, a US based organisation, have created a 45 minute film within which eight children share their own experiences of divorce and the changes that came about as a result. It is hoped that the video will help to instil a feeling of hope in children whose parents are divorcing one another, with the film’s creators stating that “It is one thing when an adult gives advice and says everything will be OK; it is another message altogether when a ‘peer’ says it.” All in all, this seems like a rather ingenious idea. There is already a large number of articles, videos and other items designed to advise parents on how to help their children cope with their divorce, but few, if any, give genuine consideration to the feelings of children that have witnessed the end of their parents’ marriages – and none, as far as Quickie Divorce are aware, have been designed to address affected children directly. Generally, products that are designed to assist children of divorce are written by adults and are not suitable for younger consumers. Instead, they are written for an adult audience and advise parents on how to help their children during their separation. As a result, any materials which are developed with the intention of discussing the matter with the child directly are highly original and, one would hope, beneficial to children of divorce worldwide. Children quite understandably, often feel detached from adults. The way in which they process information and understand both the world around them and events that occur are completely different to an adult, of course, and it is often difficult to discuss such sensitive topics with children as a result. Who better, then, to advise and comfort children whose parents are divorcing than children of divorce? Let’s hope that Professor Child’s latest creation goes on to help many, many children of divorce.
